Fernando Castro Pacheco

Mexican, (1918–2013)


Fernando Castro Pacheco was born in Merida, Mexico in 1918. While mostly being a self-taught artist he did attend the Academy of Arts in Mexico. He helped found La Escuela Libre de Las Artes Plásticas de Yucatán (The School of Liberal Arts) in 1941. Pacheo taught at the school until he moved to Mexico City where he created art for children's books and became the director of the Escuela Nacional de Pintura y Escultura (the National School of Paint and Sculpture). He died in Merida, Mexico in 2013.
